Though Salamano and his dog didn't play a bog part in this novel, they did have an impact. St the beginning of the novel I thought that this guy was an X-Marine that had PTSD, or just had schytzofrania. The way he is portrayed is as a indirect character. The only characteristic that the novel revealed is that he's a crazy old man. Though he's an indirect character because we didn't know why he is the way he is until later on in the novel. Salamano portrays a huge part in this book because, he is the character that Mersault feels sadness from second handedly. For example, when Mersault was talking to him, Salamano said that he got the dog for companionship because his wife had died. That's when Mersault feels sadness second handedly. That's why Salamano has a big part in this novel.
